Finding Truth in Halloween Update, Crossword Puzzle, & Spanish Versions

This Finding Truth in Halloween Coloring Book is by far one of my most popular resources- I just looked as I was prepping this update, and from 2013 until today, it has received well over 100,000 clicks! Crazy! I will say that I feel like a revamp and redesign should be in this little resource's future, but for today I can at least offer an update that fixes a couple of typos. AND we also have a Spanish version thanks to some faithful readers! (You can see the original post here, which also includes some individual coloring pages.) Another new addition is a crossword puzzle that pulls answers from the info in the booklet. You can find all of those downloads linked below!

Hands down, the best prayer resource I've ever invested in for myself is the Every Sacred Sunday Mass Journal. I've used it consistently for going on seven years! I've shared about it a few times on the blog (here and here and here) and just love its full Mass Readings, space to journal, original art, and heirloom quality. Preorders for the 2024 journals open on October 4th. You can use code KATIE10 for a discount with your order!

Memento Mori- Classroom Lesson with Video, Art, Quotes, & Scripture

The phrase Memento Mori, “remember your death,” helps us keep in mind that this life is only temporary and that we were made for Heaven. I talk with my students about these three elements of Memento Mori:

  • For the future: Remember that one day you will die and your life on earth will end
  • For the Present: Live each day aiming for Heaven with hope, joy, and peace
  • For the Past: Remember you have died with Christ through your Baptism- Die to sin and rise to new life

I've used these Memento Mori Printables in my classroom for years, but this year deepened my study with my 8th graders. In our unit on the Four Last Things, we used this slideshow about Memento Mori. It includes a video, collection of art for Visio Divina, and a set of quotes from Saints & Scripture for discussion.

We did this lesson in my classroom in November, the Month of All Souls, but it also would be a great reflection for junior/senior high during Lent!

Paired with the Memento Mori study, you also could use this study of the Bone Church, St. Mary of the Conception of the Friars Minor Capuchin in Rome:

Remember you are dust and to dust you will return.
May your Lent be a prayerful retreat leading up to Easter!
